Presentation Title: A Closer Look at CALIBRATE_IO
Speaker: Mr Luca Canali Oaktable
Company: CERN
Co-presenter: Marcin Blaszczyk - CERN
Presentation abstract: In this talk the author will investigate DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER. CALIBRATE_IO, Oracle's provided procedure to measure I/O performance. We will explore how CALIBRATE_IO works, what it can do and its shortcomings. The author will show with examples methodologies, techniques and tools relevant to investigating Oracle I/O. This investigation will also provide an example of the importance of performing benchmarks where the workload is understood and measured with standard tools, as opposed to ‘passive benchmarks’, where black-box-type investigations are performed and their results are provided without further analysis or explanations.
